June 30, 2025 – Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir is facing intense international criticism over his speech at the Pakistan Naval Academy on Saturday, June 28. In his speech, General Munir blamed India for regional instability while ignoring a serious issue like terrorism, which has led to sharp reactions from the world media and diplomats of many countries on June 29 and 30.
Serious allegations against India
General Munir in his speech accused India of carrying out two "unprovoked military attacks" and said that these actions reflect a "lack of intelligence". He warned that if India took such a step again, Pakistan would give a "strong response". He also described Pakistan as a "carrier of regional stability" and claimed that Pakistan has shown restraint and maturity.
Silence on terrorism, raised the issue of Kashmir
While countries around the world are concerned about the terrorist groups present in Pakistan, General Munir in his speech completely ignored the support given by Pakistan to cross-border terrorism. Instead, he once again raised the Kashmir issue, accusing India of "illegal occupation" and praising the "sacrifices" of Kashmiris.
Indian media and defence experts have strongly criticised Gen Munir's language, saying it appeared to be an endorsement of terrorism and an attempt to portray terrorists as heroes.
He has made provocative statements in the past too
Gen Munir's statement comes at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are already at their peak. In April 2025, he had described Kashmir as "Pakistan’s jugular vein" - an extremely provocative statement. Just days later, several tourists were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. In response, India took tough steps, suspended the Indus Water Treaty and launched 'Operation Sindoor' against Pakistan's terror camps.
An attempt to divert attention from internal crises?
Many experts believe that by making sharp anti-India statements, General Munir is diverting public attention from Pakistan's internal problems - such as economic crisis, increasing terrorist attacks (especially in Waziristan and Balochistan). His statements are being seen as a strategy to divert attention from the real issues of Pakistan.
India's strong reaction
The Indian government has completely rejected all the allegations of General Munir and reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. India has also said that Pakistan's policies have been promoting terrorism and now the world should understand who is the biggest obstacle to peace.
