Iran, 12 June 2025 — Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh announced that the country has successfully tested a ballistic missile carrying a two-tonne warhead, marking what he described as a significant advancement in Iran’s defense capabilities.
The announcement came during a press interaction on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday. Nasirzadeh emphasized Iran’s continued military progress, stating that the armed forces are fully equipped and confident in their ability to respond to any conflict.

Military Options and Warnings
The top US general in the region, General Michael “Erik” Kurilla, who heads the US Central Command (CENTCOM), stated on Tuesday that military options remain available should negotiations break down.
“I have provided the secretary of defense and the president with a wide range of options,” Kurilla said during a congressional hearing.
In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander also issued a warning, asserting that Iran is fully prepared for all scenarios, including military confrontation.
“If conflict is imposed upon us, we will strike our designated targets. The enemy will suffer heavy casualties, and America must leave the region,” Nasirzadeh stated.
Ongoing Indirect Negotiations
Despite the escalation in rhetoric, diplomatic efforts continue. Since April 12, Iran and the United States have engaged in five rounds of indirect negotiations, mediated by Oman.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, the next round of talks is scheduled for June 15 in Oman.
Iran’s Position on Defense
Iran has reiterated that its defensive capabilities are non-negotiable, emphasizing the country’s right to maintain and advance its military systems independently of the ongoing nuclear discussions.
