Ayatollah Khamenei Emphasizes Parliament’s Role in Upholding Revolutionary Values and National Integrity

Iran, June 12, 2025 Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei addressed Iranian lawmakers on Wednesday in a wide-ranging meeting that emphasized the role of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) in strengthening national integrity, defending justice, and confronting global pressure.

The meeting, held on the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir and coinciding with the birth anniversary of Imam Hadi (pbuh), highlighted both religious and legislative themes. Ayatollah Khamenei also congratulated Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on his re-election as Speaker of the Iranian Parliament.

Key Points from Ayatollah Khamenei's Address

Law as the Backbone of Social Order

Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated the universal importance of legislative bodies, stating, “The law is a fundamental condition for the existence of social life.” He underlined that laws derived through collective wisdom and national representation hold greater legitimacy.

He emphasized the moral quality of a parliament over its formal legal standing, noting that the true value of a legislature lies in its ethical foundation, justice-seeking orientation, and alignment with the public good—not in symbolic authority alone.

Role of MPs: Inspire Hope, Show Responsibility

The Leader advised parliamentarians to remain accountable to both God and the public, avoid conflicts of interest, and pursue national welfare above political or personal motives. He called on MPs to ensure their speeches foster hope and confidence, reflecting the principles of the Islamic Revolution.

“The influence of MPs' words is significant. They must radiate national strength, rationality, and unity,” he said.

 Unparalleled Resistance Against Global Pressures

Ayatollah Khamenei praised the Iranian public’s resilience in the face of international pressure, labeling it a key trait of the national character. He referred to the mass participation in the annual commemoration of Imam Khomeini and the 22nd of Bahman rallies as examples of this unwavering spirit.

“The Iranian nation’s resistance against bullying and hostile rhetoric from global powers is unmatched,” he noted.

 Revolutionary Conduct in Parliament

Ayatollah Khamenei called for the Iranian Parliament to continue operating with a Revolutionary mindset. However, he cautioned against reducing “Revolutionary” conduct to mere slogans or rhetoric.

Instead, he defined it as:

  • Adhering strictly to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution
  • Acting courageously and respectfully
  • Setting aside personal and political biases
  • Maintaining transparency and spiritual accountability

“Being Revolutionary means expressing beliefs clearly, respectfully, and without deviation from Islamic principles,” he said.

 Unified Response to Global Criticism

The Leader underscored the necessity of a strong and unified stance in response to accusatory or irrational criticisms of the Islamic Republic. He described such responses as part of the Parliament’s duty to safeguard national dignity and unity.

 Speaker Ghalibaf’s Summary of 12th Parliament’s Achievements

Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf outlined the legislative achievements of the 12th Parliament, including:

  • Strategic Action Law for Safeguarding National Interests
  • Support for Iran’s diplomatic stance during Muscat negotiations
  • Approval of the Capital Gains Tax Law
  • Framework for a National Artificial Intelligence Plan
  • Reform of parliamentary oversight laws
  • Implementation of smart financial and budgeting systems

Ghalibaf also stressed the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy as part of Iran’s strategic vision.
