India – June 28, 2025 – In a significant top-level bureaucratic reshuffle, the Narendra Modi government on Saturday, June 28, 2025, appointed Parag Jain, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, as the next Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). He will serve a two-year term, succeeding Ravi Sinha, whose tenure concludes on June 30.

Jain brings extensive experience to the critical intelligence role. Prior to this appointment, he was reportedly heading the Aviation Research Centre (ARC), a crucial external intelligence gathering agency that played a vital role in operations like "Operation Sindoor," which focused on collecting intelligence about Pakistani armed forces.
Throughout his distinguished career, Parag Jain has served in various capacities, including as SSP Chandigarh. His international experience includes stints as an Indian representative in both Canada and Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he has significant experience in Jammu and Kashmir, where he played an important role in shaping the Centre's counter-terrorism strategy in the Union Territory.
Jain is expected to take over the charge from the outgoing R&AW Secretary Ravi Sinha on Monday, June 30. This appointment comes at a time of evolving geopolitical dynamics and ongoing security challenges, underscoring the government's focus on strengthening its intelligence apparatus.
