13 Soldiers Killed in Suicide Bombing in Pakistan's North Waziristan

June 28, 2025 At least 13 soldiers were killed in a suicide attack in northwest Pakistan on Saturday, June 28, according to Pakistani officials. The attack occurred in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, an area that borders Afghanistan and has long been a hotbed of militant activity.

Officials stated that a suicide bomber targeted a military convoy or checkpost, causing significant casualties. The exact location and circumstances of the attack are still emerging, but officials have confirmed the fatalities.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing. However, such attacks in Pakistan's northwestern regions are frequently carried out by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban, or by splinter groups affiliated with them. These groups aim to destabilize the Pakistani government and security forces.

The incident marks a grim escalation in militant violence in Pakistan's border regions. The country has seen a resurgence of attacks by various militant groups, particularly after the Afghan Taliban took control in neighboring Afghanistan in August 2021, which Pakistani officials often link to increased cross-border militancy.

Security forces have cordoned off the area, and an investigation into the attack has been launched. The bodies of the deceased soldiers are being transferred to a nearby military hospital.
