Gumi, South Korea — Rising Indian javelin star Sachin Yadav captured headlines at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships by winning the silver medal with a personal best throw of 85.16m, finishing just behind Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who clinched gold with 86.40m.
Hailing from Khekra village near Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, 25-year-old Yadav's impressive performance marked a new career high, surpassing his previous best of 84.39m. His throw not only earned him a podium finish but also reaffirmed his position as a key contender in India's javelin roster.
Fellow Indian thrower Yashvir Singh also impressed in the javelin final, recording a personal best of 82.57m to secure the fifth position among Asia’s best.
Animesh Kujur Sets National Record in 200m Sprint
India’s medal haul continued with Animesh Kujur, who won bronze in the men’s 200m final. The 21-year-old sprinter clocked a new national record of 20.32 seconds, bettering his previous best of 20.40s set earlier this year.
Japan's Towa Uzawa won gold with a time of 20.12s, while Saudi Arabia’s Abdulaziz Abdu I Atafi claimed silver at 20.31s, narrowly edging out Kujur by just 0.01 seconds.
Vithya Ramraj Secures Bronze in 400m Hurdles
India’s medal run didn’t stop there. Vithya Ramraj, the Asian Games bronze medallist from Tamil Nadu, powered her way to another bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles. She clocked 56.46 seconds, showcasing consistency and grit.
The gold went to China’s Mo Jiadie (55.31s), followed closely by Bahrain’s Oluwakemi Adekoya (55.32s). India’s Anu Raghavan finished seventh with a time of 57.46s.
Mixed Results in Women’s 200m Final
In the women’s 200m final, Jyoti Yarraji placed fifth with a timing of 23.47s, while Nithya Gandhe came seventh at 23.90s. Earlier in the championship, Yarraji had won gold in the women's 100m hurdles, continuing her strong form on the international stage.
