The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) reported 363 fresh infections in the 24-hour period between Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1. The country's total active cases now stand at 3,758.

This recent increase signals a significant shift, prompting health officials to monitor the situation closely.

States Reporting Most Active Cases and New Infections

According to MoHFW data from Sunday, June 1, several states are contributing significantly to the rising active case count:

  • Kerala leads with 1,400 active Covid cases, reporting 64 new cases in the last 24 hours.
  • Maharashtra follows with 485 active cases and 18 new infections.
  • Delhi has logged 436 active cases, with 61 fresh cases reported in the past day.

Tragic Deaths Reported in Kerala, Karnataka, and Delhi

Sadly, India also recorded two Covid-19-related deaths within the 24-hour period, one each in Kerala and Karnataka, as per MoHFW figures on Sunday.

  • In Karnataka, a 63-year-old man, who also suffered from Pulmonary TB and Squamous Cell Carcinoma of buccal mucosa, passed away with an incidental Covid-19 positive status.
  • In Kerala, a 24-year-old woman succumbed to the disease. She was also battling Sepsis Hypertension and Decompensated Chronic Liver Disease (DCLD).
  • Separately, Delhi reported its first fatality amid the current surge, a 60-year-old woman who tested positive for Covid-19. Officials noted her death was incidental to her primary condition of acute intestinal obstruction post-laparotomy.

Residents are urged to practice responsible behavior, including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining physical distancing, and adhering to good hygiene practices to curb the spread of the virus.
