Gracing the National Students' Convocation of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) in New Delhi, President Murmu addressed a gathering of aspiring professionals and seasoned experts.
The President lauded ICMAI, founded in 1944, for its crucial role in India's economic transformation.
Sustainability: "No Longer a Slogan, But a Necessity"
A key focus of her address was the urgent need for corporate organizations to integrate environmental considerations into their financial models. "The world is facing the crisis of climate change," President Murmu stated emphatically. "Sustainability is no longer a slogan; it has become a necessity."
She challenged the traditional singular pursuit of profit, asserting, "That time is over when corporate organizations worked solely with the profit motive. Now they have to keep the environmental costs in mind. And this is where CMAs [Cost and Management Accountants], with their skills, can bring about a great change in the future of the planet."

President Murmu advised the graduating students that their responsibilities extend far beyond traditional financial accounting.
The President's address reinforces the government's broader vision for a developed India that balances robust economic growth with environmental responsibility and social progress, positioning professionals like cost accountants as vital partners in this national endeavor.
